Lessons in the Time of Preparation: Introduction and God Sends Encouragers

I've totally already noticed that I am currently in a time of preparation.  I am quite aware of that fact, sometimes almost too aware.

But, God is still God and He is still good!  And as He prepares me, He's been doing some awesome things and teaching me some incredible lessons (some of which I am regretfully slow at learning).

God Sends Encouragers
I just love how God never lets us hanging.  He knows we need some human affirmation because of our need for human connection, so He sends us those who will encourage us in our dreams in the time of preparation when our dreams feel like nothing but a cartoon cloud bubble above our heads at night.

Ever since I've come back from my second mission trip to Guatemala, and those of us in our ministry team have started dreaming about having our own ministry there, that's what my long-term focus is.  So, as I sit through college classes longing for another place, I am slowly working towards my two year, associate's degree in General Business Studies.  When people ask what I want to do with my degree, I say use it for missions.  Most of them immediately go, "oh...that's cool!" and do their little smile and head-nod thing as they're most likely thinking how ridiculous that is or simply not understanding my dream in the least.

But then there are the encouragers that God sends my way.  They are the ones that respond with "That's awesome!"  Or, "You're serious, aren't you?  That's incredible!" and genuinely want to know more, and don't feed me a fake smile.  In fact, they usually don't smile at all, because their faces wear that look of true interest.

Everyone needs encouragers.  And God has brought many of them my way, sometimes very unexpected either because of who they are or the timing.  The co-workers, the customers, the new friends at college or random people who ask you questions and surprise you with support.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 "Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do."

God loves to see His children encouraged during times of struggle, which in my case lately means He sends me encouragers when I need them most!
