Fog: Which Light Are You?
The fog is very thick today
And many wander to and fro
Trying to find their way through
By many lights' hopeful glow.
Some wanderers have friends by their side
With a small flashlight in their hand
But the light is useless in the thickest fog
So they turn it off and join the darkness of the land.
Some people hold lamps and are standing still
Hoping to shed some light without moving
But from so far away the light is too dim
This mistake their fear and laziness proving.
Cars drive by with bright lights illuminating
The way for the wanderers in the dark
but it's only for a moment the path can be seen
Then the light is gone leaving fog and uncertainty just as stark.
Some are kind and immediately shine
Their floodlights to penetrate the darkness
They walk alongside the wanderers to show the way
And help them find the path with love to end their distress.
When the fog becomes unbearable
And the flood lights are being snuffed out
The Sun will shine through the thickness of dark
And the people will rejoice with a shout.
I actually got the inspiration for this poem while riding the bus to school one morning when it was really foggy outside. When I got a chance to write it down, God gave me the perfect way to organize it and write in the hidden meaning as my eyes were opened to this metaphor. The important question for each of us now is, what kind of light are we?
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:16
