The Journey Begins: Will You Come Too?
Hello, fellow pilgrim.
You may wonder how you are a pilgrim; but aren't we all? This world is not our true home; we have a Kingdom waiting for us in Heaven. In Hebrews 11 we read about all the Old Testament heroes of the faith, such as Abraham, and how they were pilgrims. Verses 9-10 say, "By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God." Ephesians tells us that Jesus Christ is the chief cornerstone of our foundation. Don't you want to go to that city? What a glorious city it will be, with no need for the sun, because there is where the Son dwells! A few verses later in Hebrews 11:13-14, we read that "These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country." We, too, seek a new country, for we do not belong to this earthly one.
However, we also have the opportunity to see that Kingdom come here on earth, to receive the promises, as God's Spirit invades. That is why we pray "Your Kingdom come" and mean it. We are not to simply wade through the marshes of this evil world trying to keep our balance, but to command the deadly waters away in the name of Jesus. In John 14:12 Jesus tells us "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." We are to do what Jesus did, and even greater things! How often do we see pilgrims do what God has given them the power to do and instead just sit, moping around, shaking their heads at how awful the world is, passively waiting for the new Kingdom that they are pilgrims to? I urge you, don't be a passive pilgrim! There is such a blessing in being an active pilgrim, placing your footsteps around every dark nook and cranny of this world as you bring the light of Jesus Christ to it and help bring His Kingdom come, here and now.
So, fellow pilgrim, won't you join me in my journey as a humble pilgrim in this world, attempting with the grace of God and the love of Christ and the power of the Spirit to bring His Kingdom come?
This is the same that is on the "What is a Pilgrim" page; however, I thought it a fitting introduction. Also, I will be adding more to that page, so please don't forget to visit it later!
